In Depth Feature Review
In each newsletter from now on we'll be taking a look at one feature in depth to highlight all the possible options & benefits it has to ensure you're making the best use of what WHMCS can do for you. In this first edition we've picked "Link Tracking" to look at.
Link Tracking is a powerful yet little used feature of WHMCS. It allows you to create links, and track both the number of clicks, and the number of conversions that come from them, thus enabling you to see not just how many visits you've had from a link, but also how successful they are at converting into paying customers.
You can find the Link Tracking feature under the Utilities menu, where you'll be greeted with an overview of all existing links you have. Setting up a new link is simple, you simply enter a name for you to recognise it by, and in the Forward To box you enter the destination url for that link which can be any valid url including query strings (doesn't have to be on your site), and must start with "http://".
Once you've added it, you'll be taken back to the overview list and to get the link you need to use, you need to click the edit icon for the entry you just added and then copy the value from the Link/URL field. It will appear in the format http://www.yourdomain.com/whmcs/link.php?id=x Then instead of linking directly to the desired destination url, you put that url instead.
So how does it all work then? Well basically all you're doing is letting the click pass through WHMCS, and when it does, WHMCS increments the count by 1, but also sets a cookie on the users computer to say they used that link. Only the latest link they used is ever stored so a conversion never counts more than once, and the cookie lasts for 3 months, so if a user then places an order with that cookie still present on their computer, then the conversions count for that link increases.
It's a simple but effective tool, so next time you post a link somewhere, try using the Link Tracking feature and see just how successful it is!
What's Coming Up
We've got lots of exiciting new things coming up over the next few weeks and months. Building on the introduction of the Addon Modules system in V4.4, we've got a number of new addon modules that we've been working on for some time nearing release, as well as a number of new module integrations, and some more releases coming up. Here's just a taster of what's to come:
* Improved Developer Documentation - We're always trying to make things easier for developers to customise and extend WHMCS: expanding the API, adding new action hooks, improving templates. In the latest version we did more of all of those things, as well as adding an internal API method so we'll soon be releasing updated module dev kits to go with the other already updated developer docs for 4.5 @ http://docs.whmcs.com/Developer_Resources
* SSL Management Addon - This management addon brings a number of additional SSL management functions to WHMCS including automated SSL renewals, the ability to send expiry warning notices, the ability to automatically setup all supported SSL products on the fly, and more...
* License Key Reselling Automation - This is designed to make reselling WHMCS keys even easier. It will allow you to view all the keys you have with us, see who they are assigned to within your WHMCS installation, setup auto assignment with the purchase of specific addons and reissue them on demand!
* Project Management Addon - Something we've been using in house for some time, this addon allows you to create projects, assign them to staff, add attachments, tasks, post messages to communicate between admins and link to support tickets so that you can effectively track and work on your projects.
* iWHMCS & aWHMCS Mobile App Updates - With improved ticket management interfaces, new functionality + numerous bug fixes & other improvements
Design Competition
In our next update, we're planning to re-vamp the client area by way of an additional included template style. And given the number of web designers and developers we have using WHMCS, who use WHMCS every day and get feedback from their own clients about the client area, we thought who better to ask to submit their ideas for the new design than those people!
So next month we'll be launching a design competiton, and if you think you've got what it takes to come up with the next WHMCS client area design, start thinking now! :) We'll be offering a number of financial prizes, with the top prize being $1000 if your design gets chosen. There may also be runner up prizes should various elements from different designs be used to come up with a final solution.
We're yet to work out the exact specifics of it but we'll post more details on the forum and on twitter next month when it launches.
Improve ID Protection Conversions with Enom
We have been able to secure a special deal for WHMCS Enom Users to help you generate increased ID Protection sales.
First we have arranged for a 35% reduction in the pricing of ID Protection for all our Enom resellers reducing it from $6.95 per year to just $4.50
And secondly, we have some 'copy & paste' ready code for the order templates to promote ID Protection within the order process and alter it from being something users have to opt in-to to being an addon that's enabled by default that they have to opt out of instead.
So that's $2.45 off the annual cost price of ID Protection, some of which you might choose to pass onto your clients by way of a price reduction, plus sample code for altering the order template to replace the standard default checkbox and upsell the ID protect service.
